Description:
Koniskos (Greek: Κονισκός) is a Greek village and serves the seat of the municipality of Tymfaia in the southwestern Trikala Prefecture located northwest of the city of Trikala, northwest of Larissa, southeast of Grevena and northeast of Kalambaka. Koniskos had a population of 121 in 2001 for the village and 260 for the municipal district. Mesochora is built 800 m above sea level, by the hillside. It is located by the road linking Kalambaka and villages of the eastern part of the mountains.
The village is located in the east side of the Chasia mountains, which is known as Antichasia. It was founded in the prehistoric Doris with the residents of the Dorians. It is built at 821 m by the foot of the Padi Peak (1,197 m) inside the valley by the Mourgkani River once named Ion.
Until the Greek War of Independence of 1821, it was by the area of Koromilia, Propilon and Bagesi. After the destruction by the Turks when their battle for independence was lost, its inhabitants were relocated to its current location where it features a forest and it is easy to hide. Koniskos was not Greek until the liberation of much Thessaly as well as the southeastern Arta Prefecture in 1881.
After World War II and the Greek Civil War, the population steadily declined as residents moved to larger towns and cities and the richest countries in the world, the population grew has dropped since 1981.
Electricity and automobiles arrived in the 1970s, it was linked with pavement in the late-20th century, television arrived in the 1980s. Internet and computers arrived in the late-1990s.
