Greek Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou urged investors and the EU to give the new government time to restore the nation’s credibility.

“Over the past few days, there has been speculative play and unfair reports, The reports were unfair to the country’s financial sector, which is much healthier than that of other countries, and they were also unfair to a government of just 50 days, which really wants change and reforms.”

In an op-ed published  titled "The Greek Problem" in the Wall Street Journal, Greek Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou addressed the issue of Greece’s finances, urging the country’s partners to ‘suspend disbelief’ until policies undertaken today produce results.

In his article, Papaconstantinou describes the situation and the challenges facing the Greek economy, stressing however, that while this government "is not responsible for the mess we are in, we know what needs to be done and we have the political will to move forward with long-overdue policy reform."
