2010 International Year of Biodiversity - The Best from Greece

In an effort to protect natural habitats and minimize the concurrent biodiversity loss, the United Nations proclaimed 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity.

The International Year of Biodiversity constitutes a unique opportunity to raise people’s awareness via a range of activities such as exhibitions, lectures and seminars taking place around the globe.

Greece is participating in the 2010 celebrations:

On April 10, the Municipality of Paranesti, Drama Prefecture held the 10th Pan-Hellenic Festival for the Exchange of local seed varieties.

From May 3 to August 29, the Athens International Airport is jointly organising a photography exhibition titled "Travelling with Sea Turtles in the Mediterranean" with the Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles (MEDASSET).

From May 4 to 8 , the Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAC) is hosting a conference on Conservation and Sustainable Use of wild Plant Diversity in Kolympari, Crete which includes lectures, photo exhibitions, film screenings and field trips to local natural habitats.
