Lesvos makes the most of its famous sardines with a festival in their honour at Skala Kaloni. At night, there\'s a live band, traditional dancers and a general festival atmosphere, as well as plenty of ouzo...
More like an inland sea then a bay, Kaloni has mountains on two sides and a fertile valley on another. It is full of sardines, which Lesvos and Kaloni in particular are famous for - it is said that they are the healthiest in the world due to their high mineral content. They are eaten grilled, fried or as Sardeles Pastes - caught that morning, salted on the boat and served that night, with lemon.
