 Prosecutors on round-clock riot duty

Eleven public prosecutors have been placed on round-the-clock duty for Thursday's annual march to mark the anniversary of the 17 November 1973 anti-Junta uprising.

Police are bracing for violence during the demonstrations, with anti-austerity protests growing steadily more violent. Bolstering earlier plans, some 7,000 officers will be deployed in Athens as the rallies head to the American embassy.

Prosecutors will also be present at the police's operation centre, tasked to file charges using a fast-track procedure against rioters. (Athens News/gw
