Papandreou meets Van Rompuy in Brussels - The Best from Greece

Recent economic and political developments in Greece were the subjects at a meeting between European Council president Herman Van Rompuy and Pasok leader George Papandreou in Brussels on Thursday afternoon.
 
At the meeting, Papandreou outlined the difficult but decisive work facing Prime Minister Lucas Papademos’ government.
 
The new government's main target is to ensure Greece's continued membership of the eurozone, Papandreou is understood to have told Van Rompuy.
 
The two men also discussed developments in the eurozone and in the wider European economy, with Papandreou stressing the need bold measures at European level, beginning with the issue of eurobonds.
 
At noon, Papandreou will speak at the opening of a two-day meeting of the Socialist International, of which he is president.
 
Later in the day, Papandreou will travel to the northern German city of Kiel to address the federal congress of German Green Party on the theme "The future of Europe". (AMNA)
