Panathinaikos have scraped past another weak opponent to within a point of leaders Olympiakos in Greece's Super League. Costas Katsouranis scored with just two minutes left on the clock to grind out a 1-0 win over last-placed Doxa Drama at Athens' Olympic Stadium.

The Greens, now with 39 points from 16 games, again narrowly escaped embarrassment at the weekend, beating Ioannina on a 85th minute goal from Brazilian striker Cleyton.

Olympiakos lead with 40 points from 17 matches. This year's league was disrupted by a major corruption scandal that saw Super League clubs Volos and Kavala expelled from professional leagues over match fixing allegations involving team officials.

Legal challenges against the decision lasted weeks and Doxa and Levadiakos missed the first nine weeks of the new season, forcing them to place successive midweek catch up games. (GW)
