Macedonia is to suggest a deadline to Greece for solving the name dispute between the two countries, according to a Macedonian newspaper.

The Balkan country's Interior Minister Nikola Poposki has presented the suggestion for a deadline to MEPs from the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Vecher daily says.

According to Poposki, Macedonia should engage with a deadline to fix the name dispute during the so called screening process designed to evaluate the level of transposition and implementation of the EU legislation in the country.

The Greek MEPs have not commented Poposki's proposal.

Macedonia continues to have no date for starting the EU talks as the Council of the European Union has repeatedly put off grating the country a date, largely because of the name dispute.

Greece is concerned that the recognition of Macedonia's name could allow it to have territorial claims for it since much of northern Greece is also in the geographic region of Macedonia.

UN's International Court of Justice is going to make its ruling on the Macedonia-Greece name dispute on December 5 2011, it was announced last week.
