In an interview published on Sunday in a major Greek newspaper, deputy prime minister Theodoros Pangalos blames current minister of finance Evangelos Venizelos and former finance minister (and current energy minister) Yiorgos Papakonstantinou as the ones responsible for the lapse of the memorandum.

“The memorandum failed because we haven't completed the planned reforms and we haven't moved on with the appropriate decisiveness. We failed to cut expenses and we especially failed to increase state revenues by reducing tax evasion" he said to Kathimerini's Sunday edition, adding that “it is obviously a problem of leadership and of procedures in that certain ministry [finance], but it is also a problem created by those that cheated and took their money out of the country".
