Alexander the Great. The Road to the East
18 September 2010 - Spring 2011
Alexander the Great radically changed history and the political situation in antiquity. Through his conquests he also pushed back the frontiers of Greek culture to far into the East. Later on this process was given the name of Hellenism. The exhibition covers all the lands Alexander came into contact with on his campaign of conquest in the East: Persia, Egypt, Afghanistan, India, up to the borders of Mongolia. This makes it the first exhibition to present Hellenism on such a large scale as a global process of reciprocal influence between different civilisations and cultures.
