Guest of honour
China will be the guest of honour at the 7th Thessaloniki Book Fair, creating a significant attraction for book trade professionals and for the reading public. Chinese delegates in Thessaloniki will focus on the dynamism of their book market and the multifaceted culture of China itself. Following Greece's great success as guest of honour at the Beijing Book Fair in 2008, and in line with continuing cultural relations between the two countries, Thessaloniki will showcase Chinese culture in general and literature in particular. The 500-square-metre Chinese national stand is being organised by the Chinese Culture Ministry and the Beijing Book Fair (www.bibf.net) to highlight both a vast market and a country steeped in tradition and history. More than 200 Chinese publishers, writers, artists and government delegates will be in Thessaloniki to present the traditions and contemporary profile of China in a rich cultural programme.
Tips for Greek publishers
Greek publishers will be able to gain access to the massive Chinese book market, thanks to the collaboration EKEBI has established with Chinese rights agent Chen Feng, who is familiar with the Greek publishing scene. She will propose two books a month to publishers who are interested in publishing Chinese books in Greek. Please note that EKEBI is still running the programme that supports translations of Greek titles into Chinese.
Books about China
In addition to the guest of honour's stand, there will be another stand displaying books about China that have been published in Greece. Greek publishers are invited to send EKEBI books related to China and Chinese works of literature that have been translated into Greek. The titles of the books will be posted on the TBF website.
Children's corner
The Children's Corner at Thessaloniki Book Fair is always full of youngsters. Every year more children visit the fair to get to know the magical world of books and meet their favourite writers.
