One of the most charming places to stay in the Cyclades is Petra in Ios. It is a group of 18 villas of traditional Cycladic architecture, on the beach, built in harmony completely with the natural landscape.

It overlooks Ios bay and stands within walking distance from the port and the village.
 
All villas provide sea view, an independent entrance and a private veranda. The interior is spacious, simple decorated, with built sofas and traditional furniture.
 

The resort combines the privacy of a holiday home with the amenities of a hotel and many of its permanent quests are journalists, well known personalities and artists.

Meeting point and communication centre is the bar- restaurant area, with the small amphitheatre, that offers charming views of the village and Ios bay. Periodically expeditions, dancing and theatrical performances take place in the amphitheatre. It is an ideal resort to relax and will surely not make you feel like a tourist.

Café- bar and restaurant
The café- bar and restaurant of the hotel stands on the beach. It offers beautiful views and serves as meeting and communication point of the resort.
Breakfast is served within 08:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. During the day we serve fresh snacks, desserts, drinks and coffees.

We usually cook a daily meal with fresh materials and two times per week we organize barbeque nights. At the bar area you can also find free Wi-Fi internet access. The small amphitheatre, next to the bar, periodically hosts cultural events.

At the past it had hosted painting, dancing and theatrical performances. Also we have organized weddings, christenings and other social events.

Accommodation The resort that stands next to the sea is amphitheatrically built on the hill. Each house has its own personality and autonomy.

Studio type villa (2-4 persons)

One large area, traditionally furnished, with a double bed, usually in an elevated section, two build in sofa beds in the living part of the studio and a small kitchenette. Each studio has a big private veranda, with build sitting areas and impressive views.

House type villa(4-6 persons)

The bigger houses of the resort are like the studio type villa (one double bed and two sofa beds), with a connecting door that leads to an attached bedroom for two persons. Some of the house type villas are like twin studios, with two bathrooms, separated entrances, and are suitable for friendly couples. Each house type villa has a big private veranda with view.

Suite- Studio type villa (2-4 persons)

Very large studios, with antique wooden furniture, one build double bed, in an elevated section, spacious living room and a small kitchenette. The big private veranda with the fantastic views is an ideal place to relax during your holidays. They are suitable for couples in romantic holidays.

Location

The resort stands on the beach, within walking distance from the port and Chora. In short distance are located many beaches, as Koumbara, Tzamaria, Kolitzani and Mylopotas. It has the advantage to be near the center of entertainment but not in it. Next to hotel entrance there is a bus stop that provides you direct reach to Chora and Mylopotas.

How to reach the hotel:
Coming of the boat keep always left, the hotel stands in the end of the beach, in direction to Koumbara. If you have a car and exists a one-way in direction to the port, in the first turn you will meet, you must turn left and little meters after again left and you will find yourself again in the beach of Gialos. You will follow the direction to Koumbara beach and when you will reach the end of the beach you will find the entrance and the reception of the resort. Coming in the hotel you will be guided to your private parking next to your house. Free transfer from and to the port is offered on your request.

Distances:
The village is located only 1km. distance from Ios Bay, from the old path and 2,8km from the main street. The summertime buses realise every 10 minutes the itinerary Port- Chora- Mylopotas and every 20 minutes the itinerary Koumbara- Port- Chora- Mylopotas. Daily excursions are realised for the beaches Manganari and Agia Theodoti. However in order to explore the island you will need a rental car or scooter.

About Ios

Ios is an ideal destination for summer holidays for all ages. It is well known for itʼs night life, but it has also another personality, extremely charming. The village of the island with the traditional Cycladic houses and the small streets, first glance tells the visitor the history of the place and its persons. It allocates beaches of unique beauty, golden and sandy, with crystal waters. They have been many times included in the list with “The 10 better beaches in Europe”.

Activities
During your stay in the island you have the option of several activities, depending on the type of tourism you prefer.

- Archaeological tourism:
Ios has many regions of archaeological interest, as Skarkos (Settlement of the first Cycladic period in Ios, dated between 2.800 - 2.700 B.C.), the ancient wall of the village, the Roman aqueduct in Saint Theodoti, the Byzantine castle of Palaiokastro in Psathi, the “Ellinika” in the Upper Valley, Homers grave in Plakoto, that claims the burial of Omiros. Do not forget to visit the archaeological museum in the village

- Rural tourism:
If you have an interest to know the local society and the Cycladic nature you should get familiarized with the agro-touristic activities of the island, as the production of honey made of thyme of amazing quality (in the summer), the gathering of olives (in the fall) and you can follow the flocks of kids that exist in the island.

- Religious tourism:
Ios like all the other islands of Cyclades, has many small semi private churches, they are estimated to be three hundred sixty five. Many of them, dated from the byzantine years, have been characterized as historical monuments. The hotel has hosted drawing lessons of students who were drawing Byzantine pictures in Ios churches.

- Peripatetic tourism:
Roaming in the donkey path roads of Ios offers you unique experiences and scenes of the past. Many old paths are preserved. You can find proposed peripatetic roads in Ios island site www.ios.gr.

- Marine tourism:
Ios has many sandy beaches. Some of the most well known beaches of the island are Mylopotas, with its crystal waters and Manganari, with its five beautiful bays- beaches. Many other beaches of astonishing beauty wait for you to explore him. Indicatively we report: Gialos, Koumbara, Tzamaria, Kolitsani, Saint Theodoti, Psathi, Kalamos, Plakes, Remataki of Pappa, Pikri Nero, Balmas, Klima, Sapounochoma, Kampaki, Plakotos, Petalidi, Neraki, Diamoydia. In the most organised beaches, of Gialos, Mylopotas, Manganari, you have water sports facilities, as canoe, windsurfing, water bicycle, tubes, water ski.

- Cultural tourism:
In the near future in Ios we will have two new museums. “Yiannis Gaitis- Gabriela Simosi”, named after the famous painter and his wife and the other Jean- Marie Drot, private established by this art collector. The visitor can also watch during the summer festival Omireia, various cultural events organized by the municipality, like theatrical performances, concerts and art expeditions. The festival performances take place in the stone build theatre of Odysseus Elytis, with an amazing view in Mylopotas. One other unique occasion of direct contact with the locals and their traditions are the religious festivals, where you can share with them the tasty traditional foods they offer free of charge to everybody and have fun dancing the Greek way. Travelling in Ios
In Ios there is no airport, but daily coastal connections, with Athens, Santorini, Naxos, Paros and a lot of other islands as Mykonos, Crete, Siphnos, Milos etc. The fastest way to come in Ios from Athens is the high speed boat (3, 5 hours). Many foreign tourists take charter flights for Santorini and then a boat for Ios (40min). Another economic solution is the flight charter in Heraklion, Crete. Then take a speed boat to Ios (3, 5 hours). For transport information and on line tickets you can visit: www.acteon.gr.

From Ios you can arrange easily daily excursions to Santorini, Paros, Naxos. In order to visit Sikinos, Folegandros and Anafi you should organise your excursion in advance, because there arenʼt necessarily daily connections.
