The Aircraft Maintenance Facilities offer Depot Level Maintenance including aircraft structural reworks, paint and corrosion control services. In addition, the Facilities possess capabilities for aircraft structural upgrade as well as upgrade and modernization of major electromechanical, pneumatic, electronic systems and avionics. They can also undertake crash damage repair for a large number of aircraft types.

For the M53, T56 (military and civil version), T53 and APU 85/184 the Engines Maintenance Facilities is an Authorized Service Center.

Engine Test Cells

There are two test cells within the company premises.

The capacity of the first engine test cell is up to 30,000 lbs of thrust, capable to accommodate many military engines and medium size civil aircraft power plants. The second, engine test cell of a nominal capacity of up to 100,000 lbs of thrust can meet testing needs of all military and/or civil power plants.

Both Test Cells utilize computer controlled automatic systems that provide rapid and accurate testing information, as well as testing instructions, limits and warnings.
In addition to their production activities, the Engine Maintenance Facilities perform:

Design and development of engine repair schemes (salvages).
Design of special tools and equipment for the engine maintenance operations.
Engine or parts life extension studies.
Plan specific processes as well as engine inspections and investigations.
 

Civil Aviation

HAI is certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (E.A.S.A.), through the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (H.C.A.A.), as a "Part-145 Approved Maintenance Organization" capable to provide General Technical Services to Aircraft, Engines, System Components and Specialized Services, such as:

Composites

Manufacturing of aircraft and helicopter subassemblies in an all new facility of total area, 2.200 m2 with capabilities of sandwich carbon composite parts. Deliveries commenced in September 2007 for customers such as Eurocopter and Agusta.

HAI Aerostructures Manufacturing is certified per DΙ-8000A (ΒΟΕΙΝG), S-1000 (GE), MIL-I-45208A (LMTAS), and also Aerospatiale, Boeing, Dassault, EADS, GE, SNECMA, Lockheed Martin. Also certified per ISO 9001, ISO 9000-3 and AS 9100.

Electronics Maintenance

The Electronics Maintenance offers 4th and 5th Echelon and field support to more than 170 aircraft avionics, communication and navigation systems, ground based air defence and weapon system radars, as well as air-to-air missiles.

The Electronics Maintenance operates specialized shops with full support capabilities for:

Engineering

Engineering supports all HAI production activities and processes (Aircraft Maintenance, Aeroengines, Aerostructures Manufacturing, Electrical/Electronic/Hydraulic/Pneumatic systems, etc.) with specialized studies including, but not limited to, the disposition of Discrepancy Reports. It is approved by customers, such as the Hellenic Airforce, at MRB level, issuance of Engineering Orders, Local Manufacturing Design, etc. It is staffed with highly qualified and experienced Engineers in fields such as Aeronautics, Electronics and Avionics, Materials and Special Processes, including welding, chemical processes, heat treatments etc.

Amongst specialized studies undertaken by engineering are crash damage evaluation and restoration, study and implementation of structural and avionics upgrades etc.

Engineering is also supported by the Physical Sciences Laboratory.

The Physical Sciences Laboratory possesses exceptional capability in performing tests and analyses, in support of HAI production activities as well as a wide spectrum of customers including armed forces, industries, research centers, public organizations, and aviation and maritime companies.

Its highly qualified technicians perform more than 5000 tests and analyses per year utilizing state-of-the-art equipment. All tests are carried out in a controlled environment against extreme conditions such as heat, dust, humidity and noise.
The Laboratory's Quality System observes the requirements of the EN-45001 international standard and is audited periodically by international organizations and companies such as Bureau Veritas International, Airbus France, Boeing, EADS, General Electric, NAMSA, etc.

The PSL participates successfully in inter-laboratory testing projects launched by Joap TSC, Airbus France, Snecma and General Electric, on Hardness Testing, Tensile Testing, Aluminum Alloys Spectrometric Analysis, Thermal Spray Metallographic Analysis and Spectrometric Oil Analysis.

Composite Materials Laboratory

The main scope of the Composite Materials Laboratory is to implement Research and Development programs related to the design, manufacturing, production and testing of structural aeronautical components/prototypes. These components, destined for use in the aerospace industry and/or other aerospace applications, are designed, manufactured and evaluated by applying advanced methods, materials and processes.

HAI has an active participation in the ARTEMIS JU and the Industrial Association comprising of approximately 150 Industrial, SME and Research entities, who is a member of the JU. HAI representative is elected in the Steering Board of the Association and participates in the industrial Research Committee of the Joint Undertaking.

EDA funded collaborative programs

HAI has recently completed the feasibility study for an Unmanned Ground Tactical Vehicle, and participates in the ENEA project to start shortly that deals with Network Enabled Architectures for the Advanced Fighting Vehicle Initiative.

ESA funded programs

HAI has won in collaboration with DUTH a program to develop and implement a Delay tolerant network protocol to support space Internet applications. It has already completed Phase I and II (development of the protocol and a test bed) and is currently implementing Phase III which is designing the implementation of the protocol. As a follow on program the DISCOS is already approved and will implement security mechanisms in the DTN protocol.

NATO research and technology

HAI participates an NATO RTO program that deals with Radar Cross Section Prediction of non-cooperative targets. HAI is chares the particular RTO in the past 5 years.
