F/B El. Venizelos

Eleftherios Venizelos was the great political leader of the stormy history of the Greek nation and the creator of Great Greece. He was born in 1864, became prime minister of Greece and died in 1936. The ship of ANEK LINES which bears his name, is the largest passenger-vehicle transporting ship in the Mediterranean. It was built in 1992 in the GDYNIA Shipyard of Poland. It is fully automated and possesses the most modern navigational and safety equipment. In its enormous hospitable areas it has the ability to transport 2,500 passengers and 1,100 vehicles.

F/B Olympic Champion

F/B Hellenic Spirit

The luxurious ship HELLENIC SPIRIT is dedicated to the Greek spirit, creation and crystallization of ancient Greece thought. It was built in 2001 in the FOSEN shipyard in Norway, has four engines and is a miracle of modern technology with regard to automation, comfort and speed. It is a worthy possessor of the title of one of the fastest ships in its category, since it has the ability to complete the Greece-Italy route (Patras-Igoumenitsa-Agona) in 15 hours! In addition, it possesses the special quality mark of Greek Cuisine of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).

F/B Sofokles V.

Sophocles Venizelos was the son of the great Greek politician Eleftherios Venizelos. He was born in 1894 and died in 1964. He was repeatedly a Member of Parliament, Foreign Minister, Vice President of the Government, and for a short period of time, Prime Minister.The ship of ANEK LINES which bears his name, was built in 1990 in the SHIMONOSHEKI Shipyard in Japan and completely renovated in 1999. It is fully automated, with the most modern means of safe navigation. It possesses two main engines and has a transport capacity of 1,500 passengers and 703 vehicles.

F/B Lefka Ori

The ship LEFKA ORI is dedicated to the extensive mountain range of Crete which proudly raises itself behind Chania and sinks into the Libyan sea with more than 40 peaks which exceed 2,000 metres.It was built in 1992 in the SHIMOSHEKI Shipyard in Japan and completely renovated in 2000. It possesses the most modern safe navigation equipment and two main engines. The ship has the ability to provide services of a high quality and responds completely to the demands of the modern traveller. It has a transport capacity of 1,500 passengers and 703 vehicles.

F/B Kriti I, F/B Kriti II

In the summer of 1997, the fleet of ANEK grew with the purchase of two modern twin ships, CRETE I and CRETE II.

The construction of the two ships took place at the MIHARA Shipyard in Japan and they were completely renovated after their purchase in 1997.They took their name from the largest island in Greece and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean, Crete. The homonym ships, CRETE I and CRETE II, carry thousands of passengers and vehicles every day in safety and comfort, and respond to all modern demands.

F/B Lato

The ship took its name from the ancient town of Lato, the ruins of which are located 3 kilometres from the village of Kritsa in the prefecture of Lasithios. It was one of the most powerful cities of Crete, which was built by the Dorians in the 7th century B.C. LATO was built in the SETODA Shipyard in Japan and completely renovated in 1989. It possesses two main engines and its hospitable spaces can carry with safety and comfort 1,800 passengers and 850 vehicles.

F/B Lissos

The ship's name refers to the Ancient harbour of Lissos, an ancient town of Crete, on the south side of the prefecture of Chania, where once mineral water spouted from its therapeutic springs. The ancient town was known for its Asklipios, which was a Dorian temple dedicated to the God of the same name. The ship LISSOS was built in the MIHARA Shipyard of Japan and completely renovated in 1989. It has a transport capacity of 1,900 passengers and 600 vehicles.

F/B Prevelis

The Monastery of Prevelis is located in Rethymno, was built in the 16th century and played an important part in the liberation struggles and the Revolutions of Crete. In more recent history, in the battle of Crete it constituted a refuge for the allied powers. In 1831 the first Greek Faculty was founded there. The ship PREVELIS, which bears its name, was built in the IMABARI Shipyard in Japan and completely renovated in 1995. It has a transport capacity of 1,500 passengers and 450 vehicles, and offers all modern facilities.

Cabins

During the trip relax in the beautiful, warm surroundings of our spacious inner or outer cabins. All are functional and welcoming, with two, three, or four beds. For the more demanding guests, there are nicely decorated deluxe cabins with a small sitting room, TV, refrigerator, wi-fi Internet and breakfast* at the a la carte restaurant, both services free of charge. Regardless of the category that you will choose, our well-trained staff will be at your disposal to make your trip very special!

A la carte Restaurant

In our ships' a la carte restaurants, the inspired ambience, our chefs' choice menus and the impeccable service will impress you. The fresh ingredients and the Cretan extra virgin olive oil used, guarantee a unique savory experience, whereas the rich wine list will satisfy even the most demanding wine connoisseur. If you are traditional cuisine fans, try authentic Cretan flavors served in our ships' dining rooms.

Also, for every meal that costs more than ?25 in the domestic routes, and more than ?30 in the Adriatic Sea routes, we will offer you a 500 ml bottle of Cretan organic extra virgin olive oil. The traditional treat with Cretan tsikoudia and halva completes the unforgettable tasty experience. Our emphasis on qualitative and healthy food is confirmed by our ships' certification by the ISO and HACCP Systems, as well as by the special Greek Cuisine quality assurance certificate granted by the GNTO to the restaurants of H/S/F OLYMPIC CHAMPION and H/S/F HELLENIC SPIRIT.

In the spacious self service restaurant you will find select menus, inspired by the Greek and international cuisines, prepared with skill, fresh ingredients and Cretan extra virgin olive oil.

Camping on Board

Passengers traveling with their caravan can stay in it, on specially laid out areas of our ships, with WC, shower and free of charge power supply during the entire trip! ** This service is available from April 1 to October 31 in the Ancona and Venice routes, only on H/S/F OLYMPIC CHAMPION, HELLENIC SPIRIT and F/B KRITI I και KRITI II. For better service, please be at the boarding area, two and a half hours before the ship's departure.

Disabled travellers

On our ships, disabled people can enjoy a comfortable, hospitable trip with easy access to spacious, practically laid out cabins that include specially designed toilets.

They can easily move on the ships through escalators and elevators. Please book your tickets early and don't hesitate to contact the ship's reception for anything you may need.

Reservations

* For reservations please contact one of the Anek Lines Offices or Agencies
* For the issue of the bill of lading it is mandatory to mention the data of the truck, the transportation company and the type of the cargo
* Waiting list is carried at the departing port and is served on priority basis
* Domestic lines are served by passengers' vessels as well as RO/RO type ships

Check-in procedures (Embarkation)

* Drivers must check-in at the port ticket offices at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled departure time.
* Trailers must check-in at the port ticket offices at least 3 hours prior to the scheduled departure time.

Irregular cargo

* For the transportation of irregular cargo, it is mandatory to notify in time the cargo department.
* Any cargo is characterized as irregular when:

1. The height of the truck is over 4.00 meters
2. The width of the truck is over 2.60 meters
3. The maximum weight per axle is over 12 tons
4. The total weight of the truck plus the cargo is over 40 tons

* Fares of irregular cargo are arranged after agreement with the Cargo Department
* Anek Lines has the right to prohibit the transportation of any truck with irregular cargo, if the prerequisites for its safe transportation are not met by the freighter of the truck, if the cargo is hazardous to public health or dangerous for the stability of the ship
* Transportation of animals is not allowed in the Ancona and Venice line
* Construction machinery is transported only when carried in trailers
* For refrigerated trucks there are electrical sockets of 380 volts
* Anek Lines reserves the right to modify its timetable or fares with no prior notification
* In the event of a dispute arising from the condition of carriage, it shall be resolved according to the Greek law and the competent authority shall be the court of Chania, Crete

The company was founded on the 10th of April 1967,

under the name "Anonymous Naval Company of Crete P.L.C." and the distinctive title "ANEK LINES," having as shareholders, everyday people from the large island.

It is the first company with a grassroots base and the idea of its founding came from the need to improve shipping services linking the mainland of Greece to Crete.

Administered by a 15 member board, and employs on average 1800 individuals in inland crews & Management Services. Its base is in Chania, in privately owned ultra modern offices, which have a large conference centre with the ability to host 500 persons.

The activity of ANEK in the passenger shipping industry began in September 1970 with the launch of its first ship, the unforgettable "KYDON", on the Piraeus - Chania line. Since then, its development has been impressive.

The large and modern fleet of ANEK includes 11 private ships, registered in the Greek ship register, which are certified by the International Safety and Quality Systems ISM & ISPS, ISO & HACCP respectively.

In addition, by implementing the International Convention STCW 1995, relating to the quality of the crews (specialization, qualifications, experience, etc.), ANEK is generally acknowledged to have maintained one of the top positions in the area of international and domestic shipping.

Today, ANEK LINES belongs to the group of the most modern shipping companies, with a large European presence and great prestige. Since December 1998, with its listing in the Athens Stock Exchange, it has ensured its upward progress. By enlarging its commercial network, by creating new routes, enhancing investment opportunities and challenges in the shipping field, by implementing well targeted marketing strategies which take into account all the specific peculiarities of each market, it efficiently and competitively activates its total potential as well as their large sales network and agencies which represent it, in Greece and Europe.

At the same time, ANEK is a socially aware company and has responsibly contributed for years to the community through major environmental, sporting, and cultural sponsorships, it financially supports foundations with social and charitable character, strengthens attempts to preserve the cultural heritage and promote the historical physiognomy of Crete, participating in the touristic promotion of the country. In December 2008, in the framework of the annual award of the " 5th Greek Shipping Awards", organized by Lloyd's List, ANEK was awarded the prize of "Best Company for the Year 2008 for Passenger Shipping".
